Titanic anniversary

The Titanic was a luxury British steamship that sank in the early hours of April 15, 1912 after striking an iceberg, leading to the deaths of more than 1,500 passengers and crew.  The captain of the Titanic was Edward J. Smith, who was born 27 January 1850 in Hanley, Staffordshire, England.  Smith dropped out of school and began working on boats while he was a teenager.  In 1875, Smith earned a master’s certificate, which was required to serve as captain. In 1880, Smith became a junior officer with the White Star Line and seven years later, he commanded his first ship.

What is our connection to the Titanic?

Edward J. Smith was born and lived in Hanley.  His father was a potter in Hanley.  So, could any of our relatives have come in contact with Captain Smith?  Maybe

Also, Captain Smith captained the S.S. Adriatic, which is the same ship John Richard Roberts and Selina Parker sailed to the United States.  However, the Roberts’ Captain in October 1887 was John E. Cameron.
