Write Away-Why Journaling Matters

Image
Angie Lucas gave an insightful RootsTech 2021 class.   Her ideas are supportive and encouraging as she highlights why and how we should journal.   Angie highlights three aspects:   vision, voice, and value.   When discussing vision, Angie says to open your eyes and look around while embracing your one-in-a-trillion perspective.   This idea encourages your unique ideas and viewpoints, where this is one of the first things that usually frustrates a new journal keeper.   Angie encourages us to use our voice.   Honor your own unique voice, your perceptions, and your experiences.   Pointed out in this class is it is far more important to tell rather than how you say it.   Remember also to engage your five senses:   sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch. Regarding value, Angie Lucas states, people do not write because it is easy, but because they believe it matters.   Commit to participate in journaling and believe that it matters to journal.   I encourage you to go and watch this

Legacy List

Image
From the Live Question & Answer in RootsTech 2021,  Matt Paxton suggests a legacy list.  What is a legacy list?  A list of 3 to 5 prized possessions you want to save and then write and tell the stories about those five things.  Objects have stories.  What items would be on your legacy list? What objects do you own that have stories?

Thank you!

Record What Connects Us to the Past

Image
"We want to encourage all of you to stay close to your homelands and the various  locations that have meaning to you.  We need to connect to those scenes that provided the backdrop of our lives when we were children, when we were going through those volcanic teenage years, as well as our young married years, right up to the situation you find yourselves in now.  Take photos, that's easy now with almost every phone; keep journals even if it's only highlights of current family experiences or stories from the family's past; or record anything else that connects us to the past.  Doing so will prove to be a blessing to you, to your families and those who come after you."  --Elder Holland, RootsTech 2021
