Walking Where They Walked--Fire Calls
Who Answered Phone,
Is Firemen’s Question
"Who answered
the phone when it rang 1:30 a.m. Wednesday morning is the question plaguing
Fire Chief Pete Tronquet.
A fire call was
received at No. 1 station early Wednesday morning and was relayed to Station
No. 2 by Chief Tronquet. The fire, a
child’s playhouse opposite the Ray Larsen home in the number 6 area, was
quickly extinguished before much damage was done.
The big mystery to
Chief Tronquet results from a query made on the phone when he answered it. The person on the lide said he had called
earlier and that he was told the apparatus would be right out.
Both the chief and
fireman Ike Roberts answer the phone, when the four-inch ringer sounds, not to
mention the chief’s dog’s rumpus every time the phone rings. Neither of them had received an earlier call. Wednesday evening both men at No. 1 station were
still trying to answer the riddle, who answered the first phone call?"
Ike Roberts referred to in the above article is, the son of Isaac Roberts(10) and Janet Howie(16) and the grandson of Hugh(1) and Margaret(2) Roberts.
