Happy Birthday to Selina Parker(162) born 29 May 1862 in Burslem, England. Wife of John Richard Roberts(8) and daughter-in-law of Hugh(1) & Margaret Roberts(2). I admire Selina from her experience of moving to Frontier, Wyoming in 1897; About two months after Roberts built the small log cabin; he purchased a tent from the W.S. Post store in Hams Fork and set it up in the small coal mining community. Selina and the children made the trip to Hams Fork on the train and John met them at the station with a team and buggy. The Roberts family lived in the tent until the town began work on a new school house, which was the site of where John had erected the tent. (source: taken from a story I am currently working on)

Ten miles west of Kemmerer at Fossil Butte Monument.    ---The family of John Richard Roberts(8), son of Margaret(2) & Hugh(1), settled in Kemmerer, (Frontier) Wyoming. From the Wyoming Tourism site about Fossil Butte: “The monument contains 8,198 acres and protects a portion of the largest deposit of freshwater fish fossils in the world. The richest fossil fish deposits are found in multiple limestone layers, which lie some 100 feet below the top of the butte. The fossils represent several varieties of perch, as well as other freshwater genera and herring similar to those in modern oceans. A large, deep-bodied fish with many curious plates is common. What does JC Penny and our ancestors have in common?   source   The home of the first JC Penny store was Kemmerer, Wyoming and Kemmerer is next door to the town of Frontier, where the John Richard Roberts family settled.   John Richard Roberts(3) is the son of Hugh(1) and Margaret(2) Roberts and the older brother of Isaac Roberts(5). The John Richard Roberts family was already living in Kemmerer when the store was opened 111 years ago; 14 April 1902. The first store was named The Golden Rule store and was a partnership between James Cash Penny, Jr., Guy Johnson and Thomas Callahan. the small towns of Kemmerer and Frontier, Wyoming were devastated by the explosion in the No. 1 Frontier coal mine. 99 coal miners were killed. Isaac Roberts (165), was one of those coal miners.  Isaac was the son of John Richard Roberts (8) and Selina Parker (162)  and he was a grandson of Hugh (1) and Margaret (2) Roberts.  See the Frontier Mine No. 1 blog here .

Marlene Pean lived in Central Point, Oregon, and was a neighbor of June and Clifford Phillips. (Clifford Phillips was the son of Clifford Phillips and Jennie Roberts, who is the daughter of John Richard Roberts and Selina Parker). Marlene was sorting through the family items and found a Roberts Roots & Branches newsletter. Being a genealogist herself, Marlene emailed and asked if I was interested in copies of the Phillips family pictures. Of course I was. Everyday Marlene would scan and email me a handful of pictures along with the family stories and information that June and Clifford had related to her. Marlene also included some handwritten letters and documents. Shortly after Marlene contacted me, we had decided to move.  I was packing and house hunting and not doing much genealogy, but I was so glad to have the information and pictures she was sending me.
