Stories

The following quotes are from Todd Hansen, host of BYU’s The Story Trek, when he was a speaker at the 2014 RootsTech Conference.

“I am a master story teller, who believes everyone has something to say.  I believe that it doesn’t matter who you are, or where you’re from, you matter.”

“To capture your story. . .you need to have a piece of paper, you  need to have a pencil or pen, any camera, an old fashioned tape recorder. . ., anything that will let you preserve your memories.  And believe me what you don’t think is a big deal right now, will be a big deal later.  You just might look back and treasure, what at the time seemed like the silliest of things.”

“Just pull out that camera or that pen and that paper and document where you are.”
“What I try to get at and try to achieve on my show is that every life is important; what you do is important, and every person is worth getting to know.  Every one of you has a compelling story and in my experience is it is usually the person who thinks they have the least compelling story, who is so often the most interesting.”

“My theory is that all of your stories are the best ones.  All of you are home run, millionaires, CEO’s, in your own way.  Your life is amazing if you just stop and think about it.  And, if you don’t think it is then give me a couple of hours and I will prove you wrong.  Your life is made up of so many amazing moving parts and what got you right here today is amazing in and of itself.”

“I hope that everyone you meet, everyone you pass by, everyone you ever catch a glimpse of every single day, is worth getting to know, and that they’re special and unique and have a compelling story to tell, and before we start judging them by the way they look or act, or what they say maybe we should find out what’s going on in their lives that would cause such things to happen.  And more importantly I hope that when you look in the mirror every day, you realize that you are important and that you, have a compelling story and that you are worth getting to know.”
