Constitution Day and Citizenship Day This holiday commemorates the formation and signing on September 17, 1787, of the Constitution and recognize all who are born in the US or, by naturalization, have become citizens.(1)(3) It is observed on 17 September, the day the United States Constitutional Convention signed the Constitution in 1787.(1) The day has also been known as Citizenship Day and I Am An American Day.
