Apologies

I mailed out the July newsletter with references to the blog, however I have not had a moment to update and add the promised articles.  I have had an unseen family emergency and have had to help with the living!  Everyone is alright and doing better.  I will update the blog when I get a chance. In the meantime---Index! Today's indexing challenge go help! Join volunteers from around the world on July 20 and 21 for an international history-making event! Family Search Indexing Challenge

Misconception

"If you hear the words "family history" and instantly think you are not qualified — think again. Family history work is for everyone.  Read on for five tips to get started with your own family tree."(1)   Here is an article entitled:  Combating family history misconceptions , by Jessie McKinley, where she describes the most common misconceptions and dispels the myths.     Jessie McKinley warns:  "I hope you will be able to recognize the importance of family history work and that you will be blessed for your efforts. Just prepare yourself. It's contagious."(1) So, if you have your usual excuses, you will have to think up some new ones on why you don't want to or are afraid to start family history work! 1964 Library Notes

Summer is an excellent time to visit your State Historical and Genealogical Library.   Air Conditioning?   Well, no.   Not even the cloistered quiet of the scholar's retreat.   Our doors are open to the sounds of boys and girls discovering the uniform of the great Bobby Feller or seeing for the first time the handwriting of the Father of their own country. Be a pioneer.   Come away!   If you are looking for an ever-so-great uncle in Pennsylvania, we offer you a welcome, a chair and armloads of books.   If you want to follow the activities of General Grenville Dodge in summer, 1864, we know just where to find the right manuscripts.   If you want to brouse, (sic) why not read again the story of a certain Judge Charles Mason and Ralph, the slave, in old Debuque. A very wise president in our own century reminded American:   “A nation which does not remember what it was yesterday, does not know what it is today, nor what it is trying to do. . .” Source:  Annals of Io
